Jaya the Cat

Jaya The Cat is a reggae-, ska-, punkband originating from Boston, Massachusetts (US).

In 2002 the band arrived in Holland to play the Lowlands festival. In 2003 they recorded a live album, Live at Ernesto's. Their latest album was released November 16th 2007 by I Scream records: "More late night transmissions with... Jaya the Cat".

After Dave Smith(guitar) and Ben Murphy (bass) quit the band in 2003, the remaining members decided to move to Amsterdam where they have collaborated with a number of Dutch musicians, some of which have permanently joined the band. Jaya the Cat currently includes drummer David "The Germ" Germain (ex-Shadows Fall) and singer/guitarist Geoff Lagadec, Jan-Jaap Onverwagt of Green Lizzard fame, guitarist Jordi Nieuwenburg (Wealthy Beggar) and bass player Steven Brautigam (I2B1).

Albums

The first album Basement Style was recorded without The Germ; counting in at 19 tracks and recorded in Boston their debut was received well among critics and fans but failed to gain much attention outside of the Boston area. Release of the second album First Beer of a New Day saw them touring more extensively and also to Europe, where eventually the band would record third album More Late Night Transmissions With... in The Hague. More Late Night...'s sound is considerably more laidback, drawing more on reaggae influences than the previous two albums.

Jaya the Cat will appear at the 2008 Lowlands festival .
