Class 380 is the designation given to a class of electrical multiple-unit trains that are to be built by Siemens for First ScotRail, under a contract announced 11 July 2008 by Transport Scotland. [cite web|url=http://www.transportscotland.gov.uk/node/3343|title=New Electric Trains for Scotland's Growing Railways|publisher=Transport Scotland|date=11 July 2008] Part of the Desiro family already in use by several British train operating companies, they will have full access for the disabled and a streamlined end corridor connection.

The fleet will number a total of 38 sets, with 22 three-car and 16 four-car units. They will be based at Glasgow Shields Road TMD, and used on services in Ayrshire and the Inverclyde region of Scotland, including on the new Glasgow Airport Rail Link. They will replace the current Class 334 and Class 318 on the Ayrshire/Inverclyde routes and will allow the cascade of this older stock onto the North Clyde Line when it is extended to Edinburgh Waverley via the Airdrie-Bathgate Rail Link in 2011.

Stations along the Ayrshire Coast Line will undergo platform extension to allow the use of longer trains. [cite web|url=http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/7502281.stm|title=New trains bring 9,000 more seats|work=BBC News|date=2008-07-11|accessdate=2008-07-29]

The trains will not be painted in the SPT carmine/cream livery on their introduction. A new, blue "ScotRail" livery will replace the former SPT colours following the transfer of the Strathclyde Regional franchise to Transport Scotland.
