Phase 1, also known as “The Phase”, is a lesbian bar and nightclub at 525 8th Street SE in Washington, D.C.. PhaseFest 2008 is scheduled for September 10 to September 13.

Phase 1 is also located across the street from a military barracks. As a result of repeated attempts by groups of servicemen to enter the bar, Phase 1 developed a unique solution to keep its female patrons safe from harassment: all males are required to have a female escort to enter the bar. This policy is stated on a sign at the bar and on the bar's Web site as follows: All Males MUST have a Female escort.
