Earl of York

The title Earl of York or Yorkshire was created twice in the Kingdom of England before the title Duke of York was granted to Edmund of Langley, the fourth surviving son of King Edward III, in 1348.

*William le Gros was created earl by Stephen in 1138. The title went extinct on his death in 1179.
*Otto was created earl by Richard I in 1190. He either returned the title to Richard in exchange for that of Count of Poitou or it went extinct on his death in 1218.
