It is one of Sydney's larger concert venues and has hosted a variety of local and international acts over many years. SEC is averaging an attendance of 1 million people each year. Capable of seating almost 12,500 people, it hosts concerts, family shows, sporting events and corporate events.

A wide range of musical artists have performed at the centre such as Queen, Muse, Rage Against the Machine, Linkin Park, Coldplay, Metallica, Black Eyed Peas, Celine Dion, Kylie Minogue, Evanescence, Tool, Marilyn Manson, Radiohead, AC/DC, Van Halen and Coolio as well as international circuses and shows such as Disney on Ice. The Now defunct World Championship Wrestling also held events here in 2000.
