Aldford is a village and civil parish in the county of Cheshire, England, south of Chester (gbmapping|SJ420592). Most of the building stock was constructed as a "designed village" in the middle of the 19th century by Sir Richard Grosvenor, 2nd Marquess of Westminster, in almost rectangular form.cite web |url= |title=A Scrapbook of Cheshire Antiquities: Aldford |accessdate=2008-01-21 |last=Thornber |first=Craig |date= |year=2002, 2005 |month= ] A number of buildings in the village were designed by the architect John Douglas. These include the Grade II listed St John's church [cite web |url= |title=Images of England: Church of St John the Baptist, Aldford |accessdate=2008-01-20 |publisher=English Heritage ] and the Grosvenor Arms public house. The village is reputed to be in the possession of the Grosvenor Estate, although there is a chapel which has been sold as living accommodation on the open market.fact|date=January 2008
