Everingham is a village in the
East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It is situated Convert|5|mi|km|lk=on west of Market Weightontown centre and Convert|4|mi|km|lk=off south of Pocklingtontown centre.
It forms part of the
civil parishof Everingham and Harswell.It has two churches, both dedicated to St. Everilda, a 7th century saintwho founded a conventhere: St. Everilda's ( Church of England) and Ss Mary & Everilda, Everingham, ( Roman Catholic). There is only one other church in Britain dedicated to this saint, at Nether Poppleton, City of York.
Ham class minesweeper HMS Everinghamwas named after the village.
The village once had four pubs, which were forced to close by Lady Everingham in the 17th century. She was disgusted that her carriage driver was drunk when he came to collect her and ordered these closures.
