The USS Arizona (shipwreck) is the remains of the USS Arizona (BB-39), a "Pennsylvania"-class battleship of the United States Navy destroyed as part of the attack on Pearl Harbor on 7 December, 1941. The wreck was not salvaged, instead, becoming a memorial for all who died that day. Memorial

Admiral Arthur W. Radford, (CINCPAC) initially ordered a flag to be mounted on the wreck in 1950. [ [http://www.nps.gov/usar/historyculture/index.htm History of Memorial] ] Later the USS Arizona Memorial was built around the shipwreck in 1961 and designated a national shrine on May 30, 1962. The design of the memorial spans, but does not touch the landmarked remains below. The memorial is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, but is not itself a landmark.
