"Grand Theft Auto: Double Pack" containing both "GTA III" and "Vice City" was released for PS2 and Xbox in December 2003. The Xbox version of the "Double Pack" has improved audio, polygon models, and reflections over the Microsoft Windows and PS2 versions of the game. The "Double Pack" was not released for the Microsoft Windows.

The "Double Pack" was released for a street price of $49.99 in North America, £40 in the United Kingdom and $99.99 in Australia and New Zealand.

Along with being the long awaited debut of the series on the Xbox, many consumers also saw that the game essentially packaged two games for the price of one, ensuring that the "Grand Theft Auto: Double Pack" became a major international success.

While the original games were initially developed by Rockstar North and published by Rockstar Games, the "Double Pack" was developed by Rockstar Vienna.

In November 2005, "GTA III" was re-released again for the Xbox and PS2 [ [http://rockstarwarehouse.stores.yahoo.net/grthautr.html Grand Theft Auto The Trilogy - PlayStation®2 ] ] , this time bundled with "Vice City" and "San Andreas" in a trilogy compilation, dubbed "Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy". There were no new changes, though the set retained "Double Pack"'s graphical improvements for "GTA III" and "Vice City" on the Xbox version.

Xbox versions

The Xbox versions of the games featured numerous improvements over the Microsoft Windows and PlayStation 2 versions. The Windows port's advantages were only custom player skins, higher quality textures, higher resolutions and custom radio tracks. The Xbox versions included better graphics (due to more capable console hardware) which included more detailed polygon models, real time reflections, real time shadowing, greater draw distances and weather effects. The Xbox versions also featured custom sound tracks which included the ability to play one's own songs from their Xbox hard drive. [Official Xbox Magazine Issue 24]
