Lucy Katherine Beale [" [http://www.walford.net/update/19940113.htm 13-JAN-94] ", "walford.net". URL last accessed 2007-02-07.] is a fictional character in the popular BBC soap opera "EastEnders". She was played by Eva Britton-Snell from 1993 to 1996, Casey Anne Rothery from 1996 until 2004 and is currently played by Melissa Suffield.

Lucy was introduced in December 1993 as the newborn baby of characters Ian and Cindy Beale. She is the twin sister of Peter, and has three half siblings, older brother Steven, younger sister Cindy and younger brother Bobby. The character had few storylines of her own until 2004 when the role was recast to an older actress. Storylines featuring Lucy have since focused upon teenage rebellion.

Lucy had an unsettled childhood, when at the age of two, her mother attempted to have her father shot, and then tried to flee the country with Lucy and her brothers, Peter and Steven. She failed to get to Lucy in time and for almost a year Lucy was separated from her brothers before Ian got them back. Lucy was reunited with Cindy when she returned to fight for custody of all three children in 1997. Custody was granted but then Cindy was arrested for having Ian shot and later died during childbirth in prison. Lucy then grew up with various stepmothers, one of whom, Melanie Healy, only married Ian for Lucy's sake after Ian told her that she had cancer — a lie, which ultimately ended the marriage. By the time her third stepmother, Jane Collins, entered her life, Lucy was wary. She rejected Jane, missing her real mother, but they eventually bonded and Lucy was happy when Ian and Jane married in 2007.

As Lucy progressed into her teenage years, she began to show signs of rebellion — making friends with the much older Stacey Slater who led her astray, stealing, smoking cigarettes, drinking alcohol with her friend Lauren Branning, lying, playing truant from school, being surly to her parents, and taking a keen interest in boys. Ian tried many times to curtail Lucy's petulance, leading to various arguments between father and daughter. A rift began to form. Things worsened when Ian employed 18 year old Craig Dixon to work alongside Lucy in his chip shop. The pair were instantly attracted to one another, and despite Craig being five years older than Lucy, they began a secret relationship. Craig proved a bad influence on Lucy, encouraging her resentment towards her father, buying her alcohol, coaxing her into shoplifting and pressuring her into having underage sex with him. Upon discovering their relationship, Ian punched Craig, and warned him away from Lucy. The pair secretly ran away to be together, with Lucy seemingly unafraid of the fact Craig carried a gun, and had assaulted shopkeeper Patrick Trueman. However, when he tried to press her for sex once more, she panicked, tricked Craig into returning to Walford, and confessed his crime to her father. Craig was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder; however Lucy kept his gun, which he had stashed in her bag to hide from the police.

In the summer of 2007, Lucy claimed she was in touch with her dead mother Cindy. It transpired that she had in fact been contacted by her brother Steven, posing as Cindy in order to lure Ian out to abandoned flats. He held Ian hostage for weeks, while moving in with his frantic, but unsuspecting family. The situation culminated with Steven accidentally shooting Jane with Craig’s gun. Ian realised that Steven was mentally unstable, and sent him off to get psychiatric help. After Steven recovered, Ian allowed Steven to come and live with them, to Lucy’s delight. In March 2008, Ian and Lucy had a violent row over a party of Lucy’s which got out of hand. Ian slapped his daughter, and by the next morning, she had run away. The Beales searched for Lucy for weeks, before it was revealed that Steven had been hiding her in a caravan, turning her against her family and convincing her to move to France, so that he might usurp her place in their affections. Ian discovered the truth and was able to convince Lucy to come home, banishing Steven from their lives. As Lucy settles back home it is revealed she's misleading Ian and Jane about her activities over the last two months and her true reasons for returning home.

On 9 June 2008, Lucy introduced her new boyfriend Olly (Bart Edwards) to her dad, saying he had come for "tea". She later attempted to have sex with her new boyfriend but 'chickened out'.

On 22 July 2008, Lucy got drunk at Clare Bates's party, but Christian Clarke caught her drinking in the corner. Christian dragged her out and she accused him of 'embarrassing' her, so Christian told her that it's 'No More Mr Nice Guy' and that she's grounded. Lucy replies that he can't tell her what to do because he isn't her dad, then suddenly puked onto Max Branning's shoes. That ended with Christian apologizing to Max.

On 18 August 2008, Lucy reunited with Olly and threw a party in Christian's flat, it was then she decided she was going on the pill. However when Ian found out he flushed her pills down the toilet.

On 21 August 2008, Ian decided to invite Olly and his mother round for dinner. This is when Lucy discovers Olly is from a wealthy family, and he wasn't all he made out to be. Lucy asks Christian to escort her home when she realises Olly's a phony. The following day, Lucy moved back home.

On 26 September 2008, Lucy finds out that Tony King, Whitney Dean's stepfather had punched Peter, she immediately went to the Jackson's to confront Bianca, Whitney and Tony about the situation by threatening to call the police, but when Whitney begged her not to, Lucy eventually decided not to call the police.
