Covergence Inc. is a private company based in Maynard, Massachusetts that produces and markets communications solutions that enable large organizations to transition to VoIP and Unified communications. The Covergence Session Manager series of session management solutions provide next-generation security and management for VoIP and other real-time services. Covergence was established in late 2003, and the company is focused on extending traditional session management to define, enforce, and audit fine-grained security, control, routing, monitoring, and interoperability policies on VoIP, video, IM, presence, and other real-time services.[1] Covergence counts five of the Fortune 25 as its customers and the Company’s solutions are deployed today in some of the world’s largest service providers and enterprises.[2]

Covergence is focused on helping companies transition to interactive IP communications—voice, video and multimedia sessions — to increase productivity and achieve cost savings.[3] The Covergence Session Manager supports multiple applications in service provider, contact center and large enterprise networks – from SIP trunking to Unified Communications to the delivery of Communications-enabled Applications.[4] Covergence was acquired by Acme Packet in May 2009.

Covergence Session Manager combines traditional Session Border Controller functionality with comprehensive security features and management tools. The Covergence Session Manager is purpose-built to securely and reliably connect users to VoIP and multi-media services while giving organizations the complete control and visibility they require.
