Plot

Siman (Mallika Sherawat) is married to Sudhir (Ashmit Patel), but due to her lonely married life she gets into an affair with her college time lover Sunny (Emraan Hashmi), whom she accidentally meets after marriage. She starts telling lies to Sudhir so as to meet Sunny daily, and gets so engrossed in love affair, that she forgets all her commitments as a wife and mother, and she realises that it is grossly wrong. Finally, she decides to end the affair, but to her surprise she finds another woman with him. Sima then realises the mistake she did by sleeping with Sunny just because of unhappy marital life. She laments for her unfaithful act of the immoral affair.

On the other hand, Sudhir hires a detective, and comes to know about the affair, and the fact of Sunny being a womaniser.

The police comes to their house and inquires about the missing Sunny, on a report registered by his girlfriend. Simran gets an idea that it has something to do with Sudhir. Then it is revealed that when Sudhir goes to Sunny to request him to end the affair, in the heat of the moment he beats him brutally and buries his dead body. She accepts her mistake, supports Sudhir, and even tries to take every risk and blame on herself. This develops and strengthens their love and faith.

When Sunny is murdered, she is arrested by the police for the said murder, and she pleads guilty. But instead Sudhir claims that it is actually he who has killed Sunny. This leaves the police in confusion. Moreover, the dead body was also missing from the spot.

Finally, the story takes a u-turn when it is found that actually, this "murder" never took place; rather it was a plot planned by Sunny with the aid of Radhika to separate Simran and Sudhir, so that he could continue his love affair with Simran.

The couple reunites with the love developed on the strong foundations of the test of mutual support and understanding, to lead a happily married life.

Controversies

Anu Malik, the music composer of the film composed a song called Jana Jane Jana. The chords of that song was reportedly copied from Nishwa Korechho Amay, a song by a Bangladeshi band called Miles. The Arabic portion of Kaho Na Kaho is reportedly a stanza from the 2000 single Tamally Maak by Egyptian artist Amr Diab, also the tune is copied from the same. The tune of the song Bheege Hont Tere is also reportedly copied from a song of Pakistani artist Najam Sheraz.

Sequel

A sequel to the film titled Murder 2 was released on July 8, 2011 with Emraan Hashmi and Jacqueline Fernandez. Murder 2 received the verdict of Blockbuster in its first week itself.[2] After the success of the first two installments, the producers have planned for third installment to the series.[3]
