Upper Polog dialect

The Upper Polog dialect (Macedonian: "горнополошки дијалект/ gornopološki dijalekt" ) is a member of the western and north western subgroup of the western group of Dialects of the Macedonian language. The dialect is mainly spoken in the area around the city of Gostivar till to the villages Brvenica and Bogovinje on north, Reka region on west, Porčie on east and Galičnik on south. The dialect is closly related with the neighbouring dialects, perticulary with the Kičevo-Poreče dialect, Reka dialect and Galičnik dialect. Also in some extand, the dialect shares some simillarities with the Lower Polog dialect. The dialect is very well know of using mascular forms of direct and indirect objects, for male and female. Phonological characteristics

* use of e instead of the Old chrch slavonic jat: цена ("cena")- prise;
* use of a instead of the Old church slavonic letters jon and jen: јазик ("jazik")- tongue
* use of v instead of the Old church slavonic letter x: прах- прав ("prav")- dust
* the consonant group cv- is substituted with cu- : цвет - цут ("cvet")- flower [ p.247 ,Makedonski jazik za srednoto obrazovanie- S.Bojkovska, D.Pandev, L.Minova-Ǵurkova, Ž.Cvetkovski- Prosvetno delo AD- Skopje 2001]

Morphological chracteristics

* use of masculin direct and indirect object for males and females: Мај му ја топкава на Тони/ Дај му ја топкава на Ивона (Daj mu ja topkava na Toni/ Daj mu ja topkava na Ivona) - Give this ball to Toni/ Ivona;
* use of three articles;
* use of the suffix -oj for plural instead of -ovi: лебови - лебој ("lebovi")- bread;
* use of suffix -t for third person singular: тој пишува- тој пишуват ("toj pišuva")- he writes [ p.247- 248, Makedonski jazik za srednoto obrazovanie- S.Bojkovska, D.Pandev, L.Minova-Ǵurkova, Ž.Cvetkovski- Prosvetno delo AD- Skopje 2001]
