California zip codes

California ZIP Codes are a numerical system of postal codes used by the United States Postal Service in the State of California to guarantee a piece of mail is properly directed to its desired location. The basic format consists of five numerical digits.

The State of California is the most populous state in the United States, and has 2678 basic, five-digit ZIP codes. ZIP Codes in the state of California start with 90001 in the city of Los Angeles, California and end with 96162 in the city of Truckee, California. 185 zip codes in California are P.O. Box ZIP codes, 186 are unique ZIP codes, and 2315 are standard ZIP codes.

Los Angeles is the state's largest city and has 98 zip codes, beginning with 90001 and ending with 90185. Only one ZIP code inside that numerical group belongs to another city - 90069 (West Hollywood, California). Sacramento, California, the state capital, has 104 unique ZIP codes, starting with 94203 and ending with 95899.
