"The Scott Mills Show" is a weekday drive time radio show in the United Kingdom that broadcasts on BBC Radio 1. The show has been hosted by Scott Mills since he took over the drive time slot from Sara Cox on 7 June 2004. [cite web|url=http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice/pressreleases/stories/2004/05_may/21/r1_specialist.shtml|title=Radio 1 champions new music with changes to its specialist line-up|publisher=BBC|date=2004-05-21|accessdate=2008-10-05] He is joined by co-presenters Mark Chapman who is a sports newsreader for "Newsbeat" and Rebecca Huxtable who is assistant producer. The show broadcasts Monday to Friday from 4:00 pm until 5:45 pm, taking a 15 minute break for "Newsbeat", and starts again from 6:00 pm until 7:00 pm. On Fridays the format of the show changes to make way for "The Wonder Years" (music from the nineties) and "Friday Floor Fillers" (dance music). The show has created features that include "Flirt divert", "One Night with Laura" and "Scott Cam". In 2006 a podcast version of the show was introduced as part of a trial by the BBC and is now available as a daily download. The show won a Gold award for the "The Interactive Programme Award" at the "Sony Radio Academy Awards" in 2006.cite web|url=http://www.radioawards.org/winners/?awid=44&awname=The+Interactive+Programme+Award&year=2006|title=The Interactive Programme Award Winners 2006|publisher=Sony Radio Academy Awards|accessdate=2008-10-03] BBC Radio 1 was criticized by Ofcom in 2006 for what they said was “serious misjudgment” over a “wind-up” phone call on "The Scott Mills Show". They said that it was "overtly aggressive" and "clearly unsuitable for broadcast". History

Scott Mills began work at Radio 1 in 1998 where he was offered a job presenting the "The Early Breakfast Show" on Radio 1. This was a successful period for him and was soon covering for breakfast show DJ Sara Cox when she was away. In 2003 he moved to hosting the weekend slot from 1:00 pm, [cite web|url=http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/broadcasting/a12242/radio-1-announces-more-schedule-changes.html|title=Radio 1 announces more schedule changes|publisher=Digital Spy|date=2003-11-05|accessdate=2008-10-06] and in May 2004, Mills moved again to weekday afternoons to fill for Sara Cox who had gone on maternity leave. [cite web|url=http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/djs/newdaytime_feb04.shtml|title=Brand New Daytime Line Up|publisher=BBC Radio 1|date=2004-02-25|accessdate=2008-10-05] His weekend show was temporarily taken by Chappers and Dave on a Saturday, and Edith Bowman on a Sunday. Sara Cox decided not to return to afternoons, [cite web|url=http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/tv_and_radio/4017003.stm|title=Radio 1 chart show host to leave|publisher=BBC News Online|date=2003-11-05|accessdate=2004-11-16] and she was later given a weekend slot and Mills was given the weekday afternoon drive time job full time, working with Sara's co-host Mark Chapman. The show then aired from 3:00 pm until 6:00 pm, before the weekday schedule shake-up when it moved to 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm, where it has remained to present day.

On July 25, 2008 a special edition of "The Scott Mills Show" was broadcast live from Barry Island as part of Radio 1's summer events. [cite web|url=http://news.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/hi/entertainment/newsid_7489000/7489535.stm|title=Radio 1 goes back to Balearics |publisher=Newsbeat|accessdate=2008-10-04] This special broadcast was dedicated to a regular feature on the show called "Barryoke" where listeners with the name Barry ring in to cover a song and change the lyrics to include their name. Barry Chuckle from the Chuckle Brothers recorded a special edition of "Barryoke" for the Barry Island show, [cite web|url=http://www.mirror.co.uk/celebs/latest/2008/07/23/exclusive-hear-the-chuckle-brothers-cover-jay-z-s-99-problems-115875-20668032/|title=Exclusive: Hear The Chuckle Brothers cover Jay-Z's 99 Problems|publisher=Daily_Mirror|date=2008-07-23|accessdate=2008-10-06] he recorded "99 Problems" by Jay-Z, changing the lyrics from "I got 99 problems but a bitch ain't one" to "I got 99 problems but a Barry ain't one".

Show format

The show begins at 4:00 pm and generally contains a mix of music, talk and a feature of some kind and a game involving other members of the team or the listeners. At 5:45 pm "Newsbeat" takes over as a separate programme until 6:00 pm, offering in-depth national and international news from the day. The show then takes a more relaxed format and there is less audience participation and no major competitions or features. Mark Chapman often presents a version of the show featuring a number of classic clips entitled "Scott Mills Gold with Chappers", when covering during off-peak periods, such as the Christmas holiday.

On Fridays, the show starts with Scott shouting his catchphrase, "It's Only Bley Friday" over a loud piece of music, signalling the start of the weekend. The show is very much different from the rest of the week and contains more music. The show becomes "The Wonder Years" and there is very little talking from the team. Older songs from the nineties are played instead of the mainstream playlist. At 6:00 pm, a separate show called "The Scott Mills Friday Floor fillers" begins and again contains very little talking. Dance music is played to celebrate the fact that most people have now finished work for the weekend.
