Lawsuit with former Killers manager Braden Merrick

Since The Killers were founded in 2002, Robert Reynolds began working with the band as their lawyer. After their then-manager Braden Merrick was hired and subsequently terminated (claims including breach of contract and breach of fiduciary duty), Robert Reynolds became the band's manager. On February 21, 2006, Braden Merrick sued Robert Reynolds and The Killers for breach of contract, demanding at least $16 million in damages.

In response, The Killers petitioned the California Labor Commissioner to void their contract with Braden Merrick and order him to return the commissions he has received. The Killers claim that he was a "dishonest" and "incompetent" manager who was unwilling to perform his duties. Furthermore, they allege that Merrick was secretly working for and getting paid by the A&R representative from the band's record label to scout for new talent. And finally, they contend that they had done all they could to preserve their relationship with Merrick and "persuade [him] to take his obligations seriously." Robert Reynolds and The Killers also filed motions in the federal court lawsuit to dismiss Merrick's case. Currently, the issue is still awaiting a decision by the Labor Commissioner. [Butler, Susan.
