- Thomas Cromwell (Canadian jurist)
Thomas Cromwell (born 1952) is a
Canadianjurist and current Justice of the Nova Scotia Court of Appeal. On 5 September, 2008, Cromwell was nominated to succeed Michel Bastaracheon the Supreme Court of Canadaby Prime Minister Stephen Harper.
Cromwell was born in
Kingston, Ontario, remaining there to attend Queen's Universitywhere he earned a Bachelor of Music degree in 1973 and a law degree in 1976. He then earned a Bachelor of Civil Law degree from the University of Oxfordin 1977. He also earned an ARCT Diploma from the Royal Conservatory of Music in 1973.
He was a professor of law at
Dalhousie Universityfrom 1982 to 1992 and again from 1995 to 1997; between these two periods he was Executive Legal Officer in the chambers of then- Chief Justice of Canada Antonio Lamer. In 1997, Jean Chrétienappointed him to the Nova Scotia Court of Appealas a direct appointment (meaning he did not serve on a lower court). [http://www.thespec.com/News/CanadaWorld/article/430440]
