Rondout School District 72 is a K-8 monoedificial school district located in the northern reaches of Lake Forest, a village located on the Lake Michigan coast of Lake County, Illinois; the district also serves the surrounding communities of Green Oaks, Lake Bluff, Mettawa, and the unincorporated area, Rondout, for which the school district is known. All in all, approximately 140 students (as of the 2007-2008 school year) are educated in the district. The district is serviced by the Cook Memorial Public Library District; it was recognized in the year 2007 for excellence by the Kansas City-based school firm SchoolSearch when it was awarded the "Bright Red Apple Award of Excellence" along with 83 other school districts in the state of Illinois.
ISAT scores taken in the year 2006 displays that the school has exceeded state standards in math and reading from grades 3-8; several times, the average score for the district reached 100%.
History
The district's sole school building was constructed in the late 1800s to educate the children of the farmer families that inhabited Lake County at the time; when the surrounding regions industrialized, the student body reached District 72's maximum capacity; in 1917, and a new building was constructed on Bradley Road to accommodate the new students. Since 1917, two other additions enhanced the district's capabilities to run programs. A third addition brought the school to its present state in 1999.
