Son of Ghoul

The Son of Ghoul is a horror host played by Keven Scarpino, and appearing on the Akron, Ohio based television show, "The Son of Ghoul Show", where a B movie is presented along with comedy sketches.

History

Scarpino's original inspiration came from Ernie Anderson's Ghoulardi. Scarpino won a look-a-like contest for Anderson's successor, "The Ghoul" (played by Ron Sweed), in 1982. It was at this contest that he was given the title, "the son of Ghoul". Shortly thereafter, he began working at the Akron television station WOAC, where he became familiar with another Ghoulardi-inspired television host, the "Cool Ghoul", played by George Cavender. Scarpino was able to get a job as a technician on Cavender's show, "Thriller Theater", and after some time on the show, was given small parts in sketches on the show. Cavender suddenly departed from WOAC and "Thriller Theater" in 1986, and Scarpino, along with others, auditioned to become the show's next host. He was given the job, and hosted the show (later renamed "The Son of Ghoul Show") from that point on. In 1995, WOAC was sold and switched to a home-shopping format. Lawsuit

In the late 1980s, Scarpino was sued by Ron Sweed, alleging that Scarpino stole Sweed's character. The lawsuit was dismissed on the grounds that the character similarities (e.g. their ghoulish appearance and hosting style) were too broad to be protected.

idekicks

Scarpino's long-time sidekick was Ron "Fidge" Huffman, known for having dwarfism. Huffman died of alcohol poisoning in 2003, [ [http://www.newsnet5.com/news/2291469/detail.html NewsNet 5] (WEWS-TV)] and his place was taken by "Cowboy Bob", who had previously played a smaller role on the show, and played a principle part in setting up the show's move to WAOH.
