Robert Patten (1859 –
17 September 1935 ) was an English-bornAustralia n politician. Born inLondon , he migrated to Australia as a youth, and from 1883 was a teacher in ruralNew South Wales . In 1896 he became a farmer with a property near Wellington, and was President of the Farmers and Settlers Association from 1908-13. He was a member of theNew South Wales Legislative Council from 1908-10. In 1913, he was elected to theAustralian House of Representatives as a member of theCommonwealth Liberal Party , defeating formerNew South Wales Premier William Lyne , running as an independent, for the seat of Hume. He held the seat until he retired in 1917.
