The Ss. Cyril and Methodius University of Skopje ( _mk. Универзитет „Св. Кирил и Методиј“ - Скопје, "Univerzitet „Sv. Kiril i Metodij“ - Skopje"), is a university located in Skopje, Republic of Macedonia. It was founded in 1949, named after the two saints that created the Glagolitic alphabet and is organized in 23 Faculties.

History and Profile

The Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje was founded in 1949 consisting three faculties and today it represents a family of twenty-three faculties, ten institutes and other institutions.

The present structure of the Ss. Cyril and Methodius University can be illustrated with the following figures: over 36,000 students from the Republic of Macedonia as well as over 700 foreign students are enrolled at all faculties; over 2,300 teaching and scientific staff and associates are engaged in the teaching, educational and scientific process at the faculties and over 300 at the institutes.

In its up-to present development of the University, over 100,000 students acquired their Bachelor degree, over 5,000 candidates obtained their master’s degrees while over 2,000 became doctors of science.

The overall activities of the University also include sport, artistic, informative, and recreational and other activities organized within many associations, clubs etc.

The Ss. Cyril and Methodius University’s mission is to be an:

* autonomous, scientific and higher educational university that provides teaching, scholar and applicative activities in technical, natural sciences and mathematics, bio-technical, artistic, medical and social sciences;

* university devoted to the cherishing as well as the international affirmation of the traditional features and values of the Macedonian people such as: the Macedonian language, the history, the literature and culture of the Macedonian people and also the cultural values of the ethnic communities in the Republic of Macedonia;

* university open for all students on the basis of equality and their results regardless of their ideological, political, cultural and social background;

* university that concords its academic offer to the needs of its social surrounding, and has continuously dynamic relation towards it;

* university that creates stimulative surrounding for its employees providing them a progress of their abilities in order to accomplish its mission;

* university that develops long-life and continuous education;

* university determined to achieve the European norms and standards in all spheres of its activities.
