Kevin Stewart-Magee

, a 140' x 42' acrylic on prepared concrete substrate. To date he has painted almost a linear mile of murals. He has painted over 100 murals in the last ten years alone.

Kevin Stewart-Magee was raised in the suburbs and small towns of Ohio. He went to Walnut Ridge High School and studied art with Robert McLinn. He attended Columbus College of Art and Design in Columbus, Ohio after winning the top scholarship in that college's international competition. He worked, painted and attended classes at Ohio State University and Kent State University before receiving his BFA in 1983 with honors. He studied with Leon Golub, Debra Remington, George Danhires, Sheri Levine and other noted artists through the artist in residence programs at OSU and KSU.

For about a dozen years Kevin has specialized in grand scale painting and murals. He has worked with Bristol Farms, Whole Foods Market, Kohls, Walmart, DL English, Emerald Bay, Pomona, Huntington Beach, La Verne, San Bernardino and many other communities and businesses.

Kevin has worked with Magu (Gilbert Luján), Judy Chicago, Judy Baca, Cheryl Bookout, Chris Toovey, Lucette Bourdin, Christine Wiseman, Boyd Nyberg, Manuel Ortega and other established professional artists on a variety of projects in and out of the studio. He had a studio at the Pomona Artist Colony in Pomona and also the Brewery Artist Colony in the Arts District, Los Angeles, California in downtown Los Angeles.

Kevin has been painting and exhibiting his work for over 30 years. A professional artist and craftsman now, he has worked as a janitor, teacher, illustrator, house painter and creative director. Stewart-Magee is a full-time muralist and fine artist working in his own studio in the Arts District, Los Angeles, California. He also writes articles, gives lectures and teaches about all aspects of murals including mural design, paint, materials, substrate preparation, painting techniques, finish, graffiti coatings, installation, preservation and restoration.
