World Cube Association

The World Cube Association (commonly abbreviated as WCA) is an organization that regulates and holds Rubik's Cube competitions. It was founded by Ron van Bruchem of the Netherlands and Tyson Mao of the United States. As well as these board members, the World Cube Association also assigns delegates who can organise an official competition. The presence of a delegate is required in order to make the competition official. As of early May, 2007, 1527 people around the world have attended WCA events. The fastest solve of a 3x3x3 Rubik's Cube at a WCA event is 7.08 seconds, set by Erik Akkersdijk of the Netherlands on July 12-13, 2008 during the Czech Open 2008.
