Lewis Moran (7 July, 1941 - March 31, 2004) was an Australian criminal and patriarch of the infamous Moran family of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Notable for his involvement in the Melbourne underground war, Moran was shot dead in broad daylight in a Melbourne hotel in 2004. His murder occurred one day after the funeral of fellow Melbourne underworld criminal and suspected hitman, Andrew Veniamin.

Moran, married to Judy Moran, was the father of murdered Melbourne underworld figures Jason Moran, murdered in 2003 and stepfather of Mark Moran, murdered in 2000 Fact|date=May 2008. Moran was a long term associate of Graham Kinniburgh after meeting as workers on Melbourne's waterside. Kinniburgh was earlier executed outside his Kew home on December 13, 2003 Fact|date=May 2008.

Murder

Masked gunmen entered the Brunswick Club on Sydney Road, Brunswick at approximately 6.40pm on March 31, 2004. Moran ran from his place at the bar and through a poker machine room before the gunman caught up with him and shot him twice, the fatal bullet being fired into the back of his head from a few centimetres away. Associate Bertie Wrout was severely wounded but survived the attack Fact|date=May 2008.

Arrests

Keith Faure, his brother Noel Faure and associate Evangelos Goussis were charged with the murder.

On May 3, 2006, Faure pleaded guilty and was sentenced to life imprisonment with a non-parole period of 19 years for the murders of Lewis Caine and Lewis Moran Fact|date=May 2008.

Former boxer, Evangelos Goussis, was found guilty of Moran's murder on 29 May, 2008 in the Victorian Supreme Court.Goussis, 40, of Geelong, stormed into Melbourne's Brunswick Club in March 2004 and shot Moran as he cowered in a corner.

Goussis and two others accepted a $150,000 contract from Carl Williams to kill Moran, the Victorian Supreme Court heard.

After five days deliberating, the jury also found Goussis not guilty of the charge of the attempted murder of Moran's friend Herbert Wrout, who was injured during the shooting.

But he was found guilty of intentionally causing serious injury to Wrout.

Goussis shook his head as the verdict was delivered by the jury forewoman.

Moran's widow Judy Moran appeared calm as the verdict was read out.

It is the second gangland murder conviction for Goussis, who was also found guilty of murdering Lewis Caine two months after Moran's murder.
