Location and history

The town is situated in the Artigas Department of northern Uruguay. [Maplandia world gazetteer]

It was named after President of Uruguay Baltasar Brum, who served in that office from 1919 to 1923, and committed suicide in 1933 in protest against the activities of President Gabriel Terra.
