The H.I.V.E., which stands for the Hierarchy of International Vengeance and Extermination, is the name of a DC Comics supervillain team.

History

1st Incarnation

The HIVE Master had gathered seven other unnamed criminal scientists to take over the world and eliminate their enemies in the form of Superman and the Teen Titans. The HIVE Master is later killed and replaced by the H.I.V.E. Mistress and to enlist Deathstroke to help them out.

The 2nd Incarnation of the H.I.V.E. was established by Adeline Kane, Deathstroke's ex-wife. They were tracked down by Tartarus, an Anti-Titans led by Vandal Savage and made up of Gorilla Grodd, Lady Vic, Red Panzer, Siren, and Cheshire.

Other media

Television

In the "Teen Titans" animated series, The H.I.V.E. Academy is an evil school/organization founded by its headmistress (voiced by Andrea Romano) and later taken over by Brother Blood, the main antagonist of the third season after Slade's apparent death in the "Aftershock" season two finale. There are strong indications that the Academy is actually a supervillain cult, but this is not made explicit; since Teen Titans tends to be focused at a younger audience, this angle seems to be underplayed in favor of the standard "evil organization" theme. It was infiltrated by Cyborg in the guise of "Stone", a student who can become a rock being. The H.I.V.E. also includes a large staff of dark-skinned faculty, who wear similar cloaks to Raven, as well as a large number of armed H.I.V.E. Troopers (whose gold and black uniforms resemble that of Private H.I.V.E.). The Academy was destroyed after the defeat of Brother Blood, but some of the students formed their own independent supervillain group called the H.I.V.E. F.I.V.E. The H.I.V.E. students became allies to the Brotherhood of Evil.

Notable students and members include (in order of their appearance):

* Jinx (later became a Titan)
* Gizmo
* Mammoth
* Bumblebee (actually an infiltrator; later became a Titan)
* Billy Numerous
* Private H.I.V.E.
* See-More
* Kyd Wykkyd
* Angel
* XL Terrestrial
* The I.N.S.T.I.G.A.T.O.R.
* The Masked Wrestler (name uncertain)
* Stone (Cyborg)
* Rock, Paper, Scissors ("Teen Titans Go!" only): Rock is a large girl who can transform her body into Rock. Paper is a thin girl who can stretch like Mr. Fantastic. Scissors is a punk kid who can elongatre his fingers into bladed talons.
