D.O.A. (Godzilla)

D.O.A. (Godzilla)

D.O.A. is an episode of from the first season.

Plot

Peasants in South America stop working and one of them yells out "El Gusano!". Suddenly, a massive worm erupts from the ground.

The H.E.A.T. team arrive at the island on a boat and attempt to get information from a local, but he drives away in a truck mentioning "El Gusano Grande". Nick notices that there is a large amount of rich, fresh soil, the type a worm would leave behind. The worm reappears and tries to eat Nick, but Godzilla arrives, on an instinctive need to protect Nick, his "father". The military arrive and use biological weapons against both of them, while Godzilla is weakened, the worm becomes stronger and vanishes into the earth. As Godzilla as lying unconscious underwater, N.I.G.E.L. does a toxicological report, while Nick and Monique force air into his lungs and he is revived, but the report is lost when Godzilla accidentally eats N.I.G.E.L..

Randy and Monique collect a sample of the toxin from the military and Mendel retrieves N.I.G.E.L. from Godzilla and is almost eaten. Mendel considers finding a new job as he finds himself unfit to work at H.E.A.T. From the sample Randy and Monique collected, Nick finds it is a bipolar fluorine derivative and it's draining Godzilla's T cells fast. Nick also discovers it comes from a local orchid and they must make an antidote from the plant's pollen. They find the orchids close to a hole made by Gusano and they realize that the worm and the orchids are part of a symbiotic relationship. The worm feeds on the plants, and the worm produces soil filled with nutrients, and that was the reason why the toxin made the worm stronger.

The team burn the orchids with flamethrowers, but the worm senses the heat and returns, they attempt to scare the worm away with the heat, while Mendel - in a rare brave moment - runs back to the lab with the orchid samples. At the lab, Mendel prepares Godzilla's antidote while the team uses the flamethrowers to attack the worm. Mendel uses the antidote and Godzilla is healed. The military arrives with the same Bio-weapon and despite Nick's warnings, the stubborn general doesn't listen. Godzilla comes to fight the worm and Randy destroys the Bio-weapon. Godzilla then uses his atomic breath to dehydrate Gusano, turning it into a small, ordinary worm. After that, Mendel comes to accept that he is a vital member of H.E.A.T.
