Sine Chadi

Sine Kassim Chadi (born 1955) is a former MLA, Canadian businessman, President and CEO of Imperial Equities Inc., a publicly traded company on the TSX Venture Exchange with a head office in Edmonton, Alberta.

Business Ties

Imperial Equities Inc. is a real estate company focused on Industrial and some Commercial properties in Western Canada. In 2006 it diversified by purchasing a pharmaceutical distribution company called Imperial Distributors Canada Inc.

Politics

From 1993 to 1997 he was the MLA for Edmonton Roper. He joined the Alberta Liberal Party under Laurence Decore's leadership. In the 1993 Alberta general election he defeated incumbent Christie Mjolsness to win his seat. Chadi represented his caucus on a number of the Legislature's economic development, public accounts and treasury committees.

He ran for the Alberta Liberal Party leadership in 1994 when Laurence Decore stepped down. Grant Mitchell won that hotly contested party leadership race in 1994. Mitchell took the party in a different direction than Decore. Instead of running again in the next election, Chadi left provincial politics to pursue business opportunities.

Background

Although born in Canada Sine is of Lebanese decent. Sine also speaks Arabic. He has been a member of the National Council on Canada-Arab Relations for some time. His ancestors are from the city of Lala in the Biqa region of Lebanon. Many people from this Lebanese city settled in Lac la Biche in the early 1900s.

Charitable Work, Community Leadership, and Fundraising

Sine is active in helping various charitable organizations throughout Northern Alberta. He is on the Board of Trustees for the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital Foundation. The Edmontonians newspaper reported an event in 2005 where the MC asks for a Sine Auction rather than a silent auction. Sine is known for his auctioneering abilities at fundraisers. Quite simply, his skills entertain everyone in attendance while drawing more funds from the attendees.

Sine was the fundraising chair for the $20 million dollar Edmonton Islamic School project which was completed in 2007.

As a Canada Olympic Committee fundraiser Sine helped local athletes get to and compete in the Olympics including local Gold Medal winners.

Sine has often helped the Boys and Girls Clubs of Edmonton as well as Crystal Kids.

Before Sine became involved in real estate he was successful as a fur trader and mink farmer.

Sine is an honourary member of the Mah Society for his strong ties to that community.

Sine was interested in seeking the Federal Liberal nomination in the Edmonton East riding under the Martin government in 2004. However, Martin started a bit of a controversy by forcing the appointment of party insider John Bethel without a democratic nomination. Sine's supporters demonstrated against this move by Paul Martin.
