Scunthorpe Telegraph

The Scunthorpe Telegraph is a local paid-for newspaper published and distributed daily in Scunthorpe, England. It was launched on September 8 1937. Prior to the Scunthorpe Telegraph's launch, the town was served by the Grimsby Evening Telegraph.

Since its launch, the Scunthorpe Telegraph has consistently provided local news to its readership, Monday to Saturday. Its reporters were some of the first on the scene following the tragic 1974 Nypro chemical plant explosion at Flixborough, which left 28 dead.The Scunthorpe Telegraph considers itself a trusted and reliable source for local news and a mouthpiece for local residents. Up until early 2007, Scunthorpe Telegraph pages regularly featured during Peter Levy's regional paper headlines round-up on BBC Television's Look North (Hull/East Yorkshire/Lincs).

The newspaper is owned by the Northcliffe Group/Associated Newspapers, a subsidiary of DMG (Daily Mail Group). The Scunthorpe Telegraph and Grimsby Evening Telegraph and their associated websites became GSMG (Grimsby Scunthorpe Media Group) in 2007.The Scunthorpe Telegraph's editor is Mel Cooke and its deputy editor is David Atkin.

On September 8 2007, the Scunthorpe Telegraph celebrated its 70th anniversary with a special supplement, an exhibition held at Oswald Road (Scunthorpe), and open day. The supplement carried 12 pages looking back on major stories the Telegraph has covered.
