non-metropolitan district within theCounty of Avon , in the west of England. The district was created onApril 1 ,1974 , fromKeynsham andNorton-Radstock urban district s along withBathavon Rural District and part ofClutton Rural District . OnApril 1 ,1996 , it was merged along with Bath into theBath and North East Somerset unitary authority .The district was named after the Wansdyke earthwork.
The name remains as the Parliamentary
constituency of Wansdyke covering a similar but not identical area. The present MP for the area isDan Norris .
