Ty'ron Markeith Warren (born February 6, 1981 in Bryan, Texas) is an American football defensive lineman for the New England Patriots of the National Football League. He was drafted in the first round (13th overall) of the 2003 NFL Draft out of Texas A&M.

Early and personal life

Warren was raised in Bryan, Texas by his single mother and maternal grandparents. He also helped raise his siblings and worked odd jobs from a young age, since his family was poor. At the local Boys and Girls Club, he met his wife, Kesha Drayton, whom he would have three daughters with.cite news|url=http://www.projo.com/patriots/content/sp_fbn_warren29_01-29-08_DU8PTNE_v8.26cddff.html|title=Warren stays true to himself|publisher="The Providence Journal"|accessdate=2008-01-29|date=2008-01-29|author=Young, Shalise Manza] Their names are Brionna, Brielle and Bailey. Playing career

High school

Warren attended Bryan High School, where he was a letterman in both football and track. In football, he was a standout at defensive end and finished his career with 22 sacks, 248 tackles (69 for losses), and 90 quarterback hurries. As a senior, he won first team All-State honors and posted nine sacks and 109 tackles. Warren took his first airplane trip when he flew to California to play for an all-star game. Warren graduated from Bryan High in 1999.

College

Warren attended Texas A&M University, where he majored in agricultural development. He played every position on the defensive line. He finished his NCAA career with 13.5 sacks, 144 tackles, a forced fumble, and two blocked kicks. New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick and his scouts were impressed by Warren's college performance that they made a trade in order to get him at No. 13 in the first round of the 2003 NFL Draft.

Professional

Warren played in all 16 games in the 2003 season, recording 33 tackles and 1 sack. Warren collected his first career sack when he dropped Jay Fiedler for a 1-yard loss in the first quarter of the Patriots' 19-13 overtime victory at Miami (10/19/03). In the 2004 season, he became a starter and played in all 16 games, and recorded 48 tackles and 3.5 sacks. He helped lead the Patriots to their third Super Bowl championship over the Philadelphia Eagles. Warren improved his statistics in 2006, recording a career-high of 117 tackles (56 solo) and 7.5 sacks.cite news|url=http://www.mysanantonio.com/sports/football/nfl/stories/MYSA012908.superBOWL_0129.en.2b8d513.html|title=Pro Football: Aggies alum Warren exemplifies Patriots' way|publisher="San Antonio Express-News"|accessdate=2008-01-29|date=2008-01-28|author=Osborn, Tom]

As a result of the respect he has received from the team, Warren's teammates elected him a team captain before the 2007 season. On August 16, 2007, he signed a five-year contract extension with the Patriots. The contract has a maximum value of $35 million and guarantees $18 million. Warren is now signed through 2013. In the 2007 season, he ranked second in the team in tackles (83), quarterback hits (15), and fumble recoveries (3). He made four sacks.

In a press conference the week before Super Bowl XLII, Patriots head coach Bill Belichick praised Warren's work ethic, attitude, and leadership. Belichick also pointed out that Warren has worked the hardest and has done nothing but work hard to improve since he was drafted in 2003. Warren, in turn, praised Belichick as being a perfectionist and realist, and a coach who treats all the players the same, without giving any special treatment to anyone. When Warren received his five-year contract extension, Belichick simply told him "Congratulations, get back to work."
