The Alfredo M. Velayo College of Accountancy of the University of Santo Tomas offers undergraduate courses leading to the degree of Bachelor of Science in Accountancy and Management Accounting.

Velayo, an alumnus of the university and the co-founder of the Sycip, Gorres and Velayo (SGV) and Co., the leading accounting firm in the country.

History

Established on November 10, 2004 by the University of Santo Tomas, upon recommendation of and in coordination with the UST College of Commerce Alumni Foundation, Inc. (COCAFI), the UST Alfredo M. Velayo College of Accountancy is the first degree-granting unit of the University named after a private individual, an unprecedented event in the 394-year history of the oldest university in the Philippines.

The Accountancy Department separated from the College of Commerce forming the UST AMV-College of Accountancy.

Vision

The UST Alfredo M. Velayo College of Accountancy envisions itself as the premier institution in accountancy education and research in the Asia Pacific Rim, producing world class professionals who are imbued with the Thomistic values, and equipped with knowledge and competence that will enable them to compete successfully in the global arena.

Mission

*To produce world class Thomasian professional accountants, the UST Alfredo M. Velayo College of Accountancy commits to:

*Provide the students quality education in an environment where Thomistic values are taught, learned and lived;

*Provide them learning experience that promotes the values and institution of democracy, prepare them to lead lives of personal integrity and civic responsibility in a global society, develop in them the knowledge, skills and ethics consistent with sound business principles and best practices and compatible with responsible social and professional behavior;

*Dedicate our resources to teaching, research and community service.

Program

*Bachelor of Science in Accountancy - this program provides a foundation of professional knowledge, skills, values, ethics and attitudes that will enable our students to learn and adapt to change throughout their professional lives by providing them with a broad base of knowledge concerning accounting, auditing, management and cost accounting, taxation, macro-environmental, economic and industry issues, business process structures, functions and practices as well as the general education courses. The program will prepare the students to be conversant with IT concepts and application for business systems and sound knowledge on internal control in computer-based systems, and evaluation of computer business systems. Graduates from this program have career opportunities as Professional accountants in various sectors such as public practice, commerce and industry, government and the academe.

Facilities

The college is located in the fourth level of the AMV College of Accountancy Building with Multi-Deck Carpark. The college shares with commercial spaces in the first and second level, and the university carpark in the first, third and fourth level.

The college has a multi-purpose hall (Sycip-Velayo Multi-Purpose Hall) which can be divided into 3 parts, a fully-wired two (2) computer laboratories, an I.T. Room, dean's office, a faculty room, guidance and SWDB offices, Organization Room, Accountancy Student Council and Accountancy Journal Offices, Prayer Room, and photocopying machines.

The four-story, 2.64-hectare building features include a courtyard located at the fourth floor, a viewdeck, facing the UST Main Building. One elevator, three emergency exits, three sets of restrooms, stockrooms, lobbies, one main entrance, fully air-conditioned classrooms and free wi-fi access.
