Kiribati competed in the Summer Olympic Games for the second time at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China, following their debut appearance in the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece. Kiribati had only one representative in athletics, following Mwemweata's withdrawal. Nawai ran a personal season's best time of 11.29s in the first round of the 100m sprint, but failed to progress to Round 2. He did not run in the 200m competition.

Weightlifting
