Langley School is an independent coeducational boarding school at Loddon in South Norfolk, England, founded in the year 1910. It is a member of the HMC.

History

Langley School was originally the Norwich High School for Boys which was founded in Norwich in 1910 by Jeremiah George Chapman. Just after World War II the school moved to Langley Hall at Loddon. Langley Hall is a red-brick building in the Palladian style, built in 1737 for Richard Berney, on land that originally belonged to Langley Abbey. In 1744 the estate was inherited by Sir William Beauchamp and remained in the family until the 20th century.

Present

Langley School, situated in Langley Hall, Langley Park, Loddon, Norfolk, provides a full range of co-educational facilities for children from 10 to 18 (Year 6 to Year 13) and caters for full and weekly boarding pupils and for day pupils. Langley's junior school - Langley Preparatory School - provides for children from 2 to 11 (Nursery to Year 6) and is situated at Beech Hill, Thorpe St Andrew, near Norwich.

Langley is a warm and friendly school with clear values and high aspirations for all its students. The school provides a first class, all round education in a supportive community, in which students learn to become independent, valued citizens and are able to develop theirpotential to the full.

The school offers a broad yet challenging curriculum with excellent teaching and learning opportunities, where the emphasis is very much on the individual student.

Langley offers a varied programme in the arts and music and has an enviable record upon the sports field.

The school has small class sizes (about 18 in a class) with a teacher to student ratio of 1 to 8.

The school provides transport for day students covering a wide area stretching as far as Sheringham in North Norfolk, Dereham in Breckland and Southwold on the Suffolk coast in Waveney.

Former pupils of the school are known as Icenians with the actor Sir John Mills (1908-2005) being perhaps the most notable.

The school fields successful teams in many sporting fields with boys rugby and girls hockey being the two most successful sporting teams. The 2006-2007 rugby 1st XV ended their season as the most successful in the schools history.
