Worthington is a borough in Armstrong County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 778 at the 2000 census.

History

Worthington was laid out on a tract of land called Mt. Lorenzo. It became a borough in 1855.

Geography

Worthington is located at coor dms|40|50|17|N|79|37|58|W|city (40.838123, -79.632685)GR|1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 0.6 square miles (1.5 km²), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 778 people, 307 households, and 212 families residing in the borough. The population density was 1,380.4 people per square mile (536.4/km²). There were 319 housing units at an average density of 566.0/sq mi (219.9/km²). The racial makeup of the borough was 99.10% White, 0.26% African American, 0.13% Asian, 0.13% from other races, and 0.39% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.26% of the population.

There were 307 households out of which 29.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.7% were married couples living together, 9.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.9% were non-families. 26.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.43 and the average family size was 2.91.

In the borough the population was spread out with 22.2% under the age of 18, 7.8% from 18 to 24, 26.6% from 25 to 44, 26.9% from 45 to 64, and 16.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 90.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.7 males.

The median income for a household in the borough was $31,000, and the median income for a family was $37,292. Males had a median income of $27,443 versus $21,818 for females. The per capita income for the borough was $15,122. About 2.9% of families and 9.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 7.0% of those under age 18 and 7.8% of those age 65 or over.
