The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures is a facility currently in the planning stages and intended to eventually open in Hollywood as a major tourist attraction. It is being planned by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.[1] It will be located on Vine Street, just south of Sunset Boulevard, in Los Angeles, California, USA.
The museum will be open year-round and become a landmark attraction for Hollywood and the greater Los Angeles area, a place for watching and learning about film and film-making, for exploring film’s relationship with the greater world and for listening to stories told by film-makers themselves.
It will be an eight-acre campus located adjacent to the Academy's Pickford Center for Motion Picture Study.
Design team
The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures will be designed by French architecture firm Atelier Christian de Portzamparc. The selection was approved by the Academy’s Board of Governors, based on the recommendations of the Architect Selection Subcommittee, chaired by Academy member Jeannine Oppewall, in 2007.[2]
