Ismaikel Pérez

Ismaikel "Mike" Pérez Pérez (b. 1986 in Sancti Spíritus, Cuba) is a Cuban professional boxer best known to win the junior world title at light heavyweight in Jeju in 2004.

Amateur career

2004 at the junior championships the southpaw beat Englishman Danny Price in the semis and Russian Nikolay Pavlyukov 38:16 in the final.

He later lost to compatriot Yoan Pablo Hernandez and Yusiel Napoles at 178lbs but beat Kenneth Egan and Constantin Bejeranu.

He went up to 201lbs but had problems with the world class domestic competition like 2006 champion Luis Ortiz who beat him in 2006 (he returned the favor in 2007) and especially by Osmay Acosta who beat him 2007 in the national final.

He defected to Ireland in 2007.

Pro

In 2008 he turned professional in Cork under Cuban coach Nicholas Cruz (Hernández) who came to Ireland in 1988. He calls himself Mike "el rebellio" Perez.
