Its seat is the town of Krzanowice, which lies approximately convert|11|km|mi|0 south-west of Racibórz and convert|68|km|mi|0|abbr=on west of the regional capital Katowice.

The gmina covers an area of convert|47.06|km2|sqmi|1, and as of 2006 its total population is 6,082 (out of which the population of Krzanowice amounts to 2,207, and the population of the rural part of the gmina is 3,875).
