Hamburger Meile

The Hamburger Meile is a Group 3 flat horse race in Germany for three-year-old and above thoroughbreds. It is run over a distance of 1,600 metres (approximately 1 mile) at Hamburg-Horn Racecourse, Hamburg in late June.

It was first run in 1986 at Listed level as the Cognac Hennessy-Rennen (also a former title of the Holsten Trophy). The 1987 and 1988 races were run at 1,800 metres, but the race has otherwise continually been run over its present distance. In the early 1990s the race was known as the Hamburg Dresden-Pokal. After losing Listed status in 1992 it was run under various sponsored titles.

The race regained Listed status in 2000 as the VTV-Cup and in 2002 it was promoted to Group 3 level, taking the name Deutscher Herold-Preis. This title had been used until 2001 for a Group 3 race at Hamburg for fillies and mares, a race now known as the Fährhofer Stutenpreis. Since 2005 the Hamburger Meile has been run under the sponsored title JAXX-Pokal.
