Also called 'TV Tiga' (its name in Malay), it began broadcasting in the
Klang Valley , (the area surroundingKuala Lumpur , Malaysia's largest city) onJune 1 ,1984 .It soon increased coverage nationwide, and today can be received in neighbouring countries, either as a terrestrial channel (in
Singapore andBrunei ) or via satellite, particularlyIndonesia . In Singapore, the channel ran into controversy because it broadcast programmes in Cantonese. The Singapore government prevented local newspapers and magazines from carrying listings for the channel, even though these were available for the other Malaysian channels, and TV3 is not available onStarHub , Singapore's only cable TV operator.In July 1984, TV3 brought Malaysians live coverage of the Los Angeles Olympics, the first station in the country. This boost in popularity led to its listing on the Main Board of the
Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange in April 1988.Features

In the Klang Valley, the UHF channel is 29.It is widely seen as favouring the government and not giving enough coverage for the opposition.TV3 is also available over Astro on Channel 103.

TV3 has bring some controversies to Malaysian entertainment. Especially with the excessive advertistment space which lead to the anger of the audience.

*In 1991, the "TV3 7:00 News" and the "TV3 Buletin Utama" were chosen to be Malaysia's news entries for the American cable TV network [http://www.scola.org/ Scola] , which carries news programs from around the world. The two TV3 news programs aired on alternating days in Scola's schedule. Scola dropped TV3's news programs from their schedule in 1994.
*TV3 was the first channel in Malaysia to carryTeletext signal, and the last one in the country to drop it. Known asInfonet , it is available to television sets withTeletext capabilities. Before being renamed to Infonet, TV3's Teletext service was called Beriteks, and was launched in 1984. The Infonet service was shut down onJanuary 1 2008 .
*TV3 was the first channel in Malaysia to broadcast a 3D-movie on January 2001. The movie,Jaws 3-D , required the viewers to have a pair ofanaglyph glasses that can either be bought from certain stores partnered with TV3 for the event or attained from elsewhere (i.e. a 3D comic book the viewer already has).
*TV3 was the first channel in Malaysia to adopt stereo broadcasting. Stereo transmission started in the early nineties using theZweikanalton stereo transmission system over TV3's UHF broadcast in the Klang Valley. Shortly after, the stereo transmission is introduced into their VHF broadcast. Recently, TV3 began switching their VHF broadcast over toNICAM , although their UHF transmission is still in Zweikanalton. TV3 was also experimenting with Bilingual over Zweikanalton for a short period of time in the early nineties.
*TV3 attempted 24 hours transmission in 1997, making it the first station in Malaysia to do so. However, the 24 hours broadcast ceased in 1998 due to theAsian economic crisis . In 2004, the 24-hour broadcasts returned only from Thursday morning to Sunday night. TV3 resumes daily 24-hour broadcast on July 2007 and occasionally not on air through the night for essential maintenance in early July.
*In February 2007, areality television programme which broadcasted on TV3 calledSensasi was banned. This was because, one of the judges on this show touched on sensitive issues relating toIslam . The judge's comment made a huge controversy. All live and recorded telecast of this show were also banned from viewing. This also occurred on another reality TV show called "Teleskop", several years back.
