Thepopulation density was 148.3 people per square mile (57.3/km²). There were 1,683 housing units at an average density of 56.3/sq mi (21.7/km²). The racial makeup of the township was 87.10% White, 6.90% African American, 2.32% Native American, 0.56% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 1.44% from other races, and 1.65% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.59% of the population.There were 1,628 households out of which 30.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.6% were married couples living together, 9.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 25.9% were non-families. 22.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.58 and the average family size was 3.03.
In the township the population was spread out with 22.6% under the age of 18, 6.8% from 18 to 24, 24.5% from 25 to 44, 25.6% from 45 to 64, and 20.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 90.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.0 males.
The median income for a household in the township was $49,767, and the median income for a family was $59,675. Males had a median income of $40,774 versus $30,402 for females. The
per capita income for the township was $22,783. About 3.8% of families and 6.6% of the population were below thepoverty line , including 2.3% of those under age 18 and 17.7% of those age 65 or over.Government

Hopewell Township is governed under the Township form of government with a five-member Township Committee. The Township Committee is elected directly by the voters in partisan elections to serve three-year terms of office on a staggered basis, with one or seats coming up for election each year. Hopewell Township School District serves public school students in Kindergarten through eighth grade. Hopewell Crest School had an enrollment of 537 students as of the 2005-06 school year.
