Bennet is a village in Lancaster County, Nebraska, United States. It is part of the Lincoln, Nebraska Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 570 at the 2000 census.

Geography

Bennet is located at coor dms|40|40|49|N|96|30|23|W|city (40.680349, -96.506355)GR|1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.4 square miles (1.1 km²), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 570 people, 222 households, and 174 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,339.7 people per square mile (511.8/km²). There were 231 housing units at an average density of 542.9/sq mi (207.4/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 98.25% White, 0.18% African American, 0.18% Asian, 0.35% from other races, and 1.05% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.70% of the population.

There were 222 households out of which 37.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 66.2% were married couples living together, 8.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 21.2% were non-families. 19.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.57 and the average family size was 2.91.

In the village the population was spread out with 28.8% under the age of 18, 4.2% from 18 to 24, 31.9% from 25 to 44, 22.1% from 45 to 64, and 13.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 109.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 101.0 males.

The median income for a household in the village was $42,237, and the median income for a family was $46,250. Males had a median income of $32,045 versus $21,176 for females. The per capita income for the village was $17,280. About 2.8% of families and 3.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including 3.1% of those under age 18 and 12.2% of those age 65 or over.
