synonyms ="Allium shevockii" is a species of wild onion known by the common name Spanish Needle onion. It is endemic to California where it grows on the talus slopes of the High Sierra. It is a resident of
Owens Peak , which is the highest point in the Sierra. It is named after the Sierra mountain peak known as Spanish Needle. The Spanish Needle onion grows from abulb one to one and a half centimeters wide which may have one or two large daughter bulblets. Atop the stem is aninflorescence of up to 30 flowers, each just over a centimeter wide. The six shinytepal s are maroon to rich pink in color and may be white near the bases. In a manner unique among the onions, the tepals are reflexed, curling outward from the flower center.External links
