Skellingthorpe

Skellingthorpe is a large village in the North Kesteven district of Lincolnshire, located 4 miles / 6.5 km southwest of Lincoln city centre.

It is close to the A46 near the roundabout with the B1378 "Skellingthorpe Road". This is near to the Birchwood estate, which is built on the site of RAF Skellingthorpe in the 1970s. The section of Birchwood on the old airfield has street names named after World War Two RAF bases; some new roads in Skellingthorpe are name after WW2 RAF bombers.

The parish church is dedicated to St Lawrence. The east-west "Lancashire, Derbyshire and East Coast Railway" line used to pass through the village and is now a [http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/55295 cycle path] on a National Cycle Route. It used to head west through Ollerton in Nottinghamshire, and carried freight until 1979, being built in 1897.

Skellingthorpe Hall is to the east of the village. To the west is [http://www.wt-woods.org.uk/OldWoodLincolnshire Old Wood] and Doddington. There are two village pubs: the "Stones Arms" (named after Henry Stone) and the "Plough Inn" both on "High Street".
