Global Policy Forum

Global Policy Forum

Global Policy Forum, or GPF, is an organization seeking to promote accountability of international organizations such as the United Nations and strengthen international law. GPF holds that free markets are not enough to ensure global prosperity, and therefore is opposed to libertarian groups such as the Cato Institute that oppose publicly-funded foreign aid. GPF's website has collections of analyses on subjects such as the UN Security Council, UN reform, international development, NGOs, globalization and the Iraq War. Often these articles provide a view of the behind-the-scenes negotiations and posturing that result in UN action. Considered left-leaning, the GPF is often critical of conservative and religious organizations (see [http://www.worldcongress.org/WCFreg/wcf.reg.ca.060425.htm] ).

GPF's stated mission is to:
* Monitor policy making at the United Nations;
* Promote accountability of global decisions;
* Educate and mobilize for global citizen participation;
* Advocate on vital issues of international peace and justice.

GPF has consultative status at the United Nations. Its main office is in New York, close to the UN headquarters. Since September 2004 it has had a branch based in Bonn, Germany, called Global Policy Forum Europe.
