Power added efficiency

Power added efficiency

Power-added efficiency (PAE) is a percentage that rates the efficiency of a power amplifier.

:PAE = 100*{ [POUT] RF – [PIN] RF} / [PDC] TOTAL

However, in literature, most power efficiency descriptions refer to a percentage calculated as

:η = 100* [POUT] RF / [PIN] DC

This value is larger than the PAE.
