Abqaiq cricket club

The Abqaiq Cricket Club was formed in the early 1970s by expatriate Pakistanis residing in the city of Abqaiq in Saudi Arabia.

The Abqaiq cricket team has a history of creating upsets in difficult matches against stronger teams such as Dhahran or Rastanaura.

The Abqaiq Cricket Club vanished many times over existence; however, it came back into partial existence in the late 1990s.

Presently, the Abqaiq Cricket Club has a young team that has descended from many of the former club members. The team has had a poor track record in most of its history, and most of it is due to the lack of match practice and proper training.

Saudi Aramco has played a key role by funding the Abqaiq Cricket Club and by building them a cricket ground called "Al-Farah Cricket Ground".

In December of 2007, the Abqaiq cricket team had removed their "choker" tag by winning 6 games in a row. Abqaiq cricket will start a new season in the summer of 2008. Experts suggest that a new era will soon emerge for Abqaiq Cricket with the youngsters maturing and developing their skills.
