Henry Stanislas Harwood

Henry Stanislas de Lotbiniere Harwood (August 8 1838 – August 28 1911) was a Quebec farmer and political figure. He represented Vaudreuil in the Canadian House of Commons as a Liberal member from 1891 to 1892 and 1893 to 1904.

He was born in Vaudreuil, Lower Canada, the son of Robert Unwin Harwood and Marie-Louise-Josephte, Seigneuress of Vaudreuil, daughter of Michel-Eustache-Gaspard-Alain Chartier de Lotbiniere (1748-1822) M.P., Seigneur of Vaudreuil, Lotbiniere and Rigaud. Henry was educated at St. Mary's College, Montreal. In 1864, he married Josephine Sydney, daughter of Jean Chrysostome Brauneis (184-1871), Musician, and Montreal's first European educated Composer. By her, amongst others, he left issue Louis de Lotbiniere Harwood (1866-1934), President of the Notre Dame Hospital and Dean of the University of Montreal.

Harwood was the co-seigneur of Vaudreuil and became the provincial land surveyor, later serving as the Mayor of Vaudreuil. His Parliamentary election in 1892 was declared invalid and Hugh McMillan was elected in the by-election that followed; after an appeal, another by-election was held and Harwood was elected by acclamation.

Two of his brothers, Robert and Antoine Chartier de Lotbiniere Harwood, had also served as members of the House of Commons representing Vaudreuil.
