Sultan High School is located in the small town of Sultan, Washington, only about 40 miles from Seattle. It is located between the Cascade Mountain Range and the Sky Valley, along the Sultan River and the Skykomish River.

History

Sultan High School first opened its doors in 1888. First starting in a building where the Sultan Middle School stands, they built a new high school in 1987, located only 2 blocks from the old location.

The City of Sultan

The city of Sultan was named after an ancient Indian chief that lived in the school’s area, Chief John Sultan. His name Sultan is actually pronounced differently but no one seams to care much about that.

Campus

Sultan High School consists of buildings in an open campus layout. Classrooms surround a courtyard that connects a majority of all classrooms. The campus consists of a 21 classrooms, 9 portables, a weight room, a gym, a wrestling room, a courtyard, a stage, and a music room.

ports Complex

Sultan High School has a large on-campus sports facility. Football, track, and soccer all use the track and football field area. Unfortunately the Football field was built over a swamp land so every year after a mix of a football game and rain the field turns completely to mud and playing on it can be very dangerous. the football team is forced to play on the practice field. the practice field is a half a football field hidden in the back of the school surrounded by forest. it is just as dangerous as the regular field.the ground is dry and hard with very little grass and way too many pot holes. the football players affectionately refer to the field as "The ankle breaker". too many times have star football players from sultan such as Nigel Romeijn have lost their season to this field. It is a large field with covered grandstands that hold a concession stand in the back. Track Athletes have it much better. the track is fairly new and is in very good condition. many track athletes from sultan have gone off too great schools. track captain for 2006 Chelsea York went to college for a track scholarship as well as legend for his time in sultan Dom "the Italian Stallion" Garabedian. He was the fastest guy to transfer to sultan in a long time. He was captain 2007 and 2008, he went to state his first year and was league champ. His 4x1 team which consisted of Brian Cogger, Sean and Jon Grossi also beat the school record in 2008. Baseball uses the Mariner-sponsored baseball field. Softball uses the newly renovated softball field and batting cages. The football team also uses the state of the art weight room and practice field. Boys’ and girls’ basketball teams, as well as the volleyball team, play on their hardwood courts located on the lower floor of Sultan High School. Wrestlers love to practice in the padded wrestling room with brand new wrestling mats. The cross country team runs at the local Osprey Park. It has a maze of trails that are all near the scenic Sultan River. Both boys’ and girls’ soccer practice and occasionally play at Osprey Park. Lastly, the golf teams use the Blue Boy Golf Course, located off Old Owen Road.
