- Samuel Beall
Samuel W. Beall (1807–1868) was the second
Lieutenant Governor of Wisconsin . He was born inMaryland ; in 1827 he graduated fromUnion College inSchenectady, New York . He moved toGreen Bay, Wisconsin in 1835, where he made a fortune inland speculation ; in the 1840s he settled in Taycheedah. He served as lieutenant governor forNelson Dewey 's second term as governor, from 1850 until 1852. During theAmerican Civil War , he was alieutenant-colonel in the18th Wisconsin Regiment and was wounded in theBattle of Shiloh . After recovering, he was put in charge of aprisoner of war camp inNew York . After briefly returning to Wisconsin after the war, Beall moved toHelena, Montana , where, in 1868, he was shot following an argument.References
